Building Ministers’ Forum

The Building Ministers’ Forumis a national response to building and construction industry issues

The Building Ministers’ Forum comprises Commonwealth, State and Territory Ministers whose portfolios include the building and construction industry.

The Forum facilitates a national dialogue to help address cross-jurisdictional building and construction industry matters and issues.

That Forum is the body that will consider and respond to John Murray’s Review of Security Payment Laws report (December 2017) with a view to (perhaps) implementing a national security of payment regime.

The Forum is presently considering the 24 recommendations of the Building Confidence report (February 2018).  That report and those recommendations are intended to improve the effectiveness of compliance and enforcement systems for the building and construction industry across Australia and enhance public trust in the industry through effective implementation of building and construction standards that protect the interests of those who own, work, live or conduct their business in Australian buildings.

The recommendations of the report address:-

  • registration and training of industry practitioners;

  • roles and responsibilities of industry regulators;

  • the role of firefighters;

  • the integrity of private building surveyors;

  • collection and sharing of building information and intelligence;

  • the adequacy of documentation and record keeping;

  • inspection regimes, particularly for commercial buildings;

  • post construction information management; and

  • building product safety.

The movement towards a uniform, national building and construction industry, continues to gain momentum.
